World Series between Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves will start on Tuesday

After six months of the regular season and one of the playoffs, the MLB 2021 is close to the end. The American League Champion Houston Astros will play against the National League Champion Atlanta Braves in the World Series.

The first of the best-of-seven series will be on Thursday, October 26, at Minute Maid Park, in Houston. According to Bovada, Houston Astros is the favorite to win the first challenge, with -135 odds.

But after that, let’s see the retrospect of the teams before reaching the World Series. To be here, both defeated other franchises coming from the Wild Card, which were of the favorites to win the title.

This will not be the first time the @Braves and @Astros have met in the #Postseason.

They faced each other 5 times in the NLDS, back when Houston was in the NL, in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2004, and 2005.

Houston Astros

Like Atlanta, the Astros played 10 matches at this playoffs, with 67 runs for (the best offense compared to Atlanta) and 46 against. American League Champion, with 95 wins and 67 losses, Houston also had the best offense from the regular season, with 863 runs and 658 against.

The Astros reached the World Series after defeating Chicago White Sox at ALDS, by 3 – 1 and Boston Red Sox, by 4 – 2, finishing the series last Friday 22. The team won the American League pennant for the third time in five seasons. In 2019 they lost for Washington Nationals (4 – 3), and in 2017, they won the challenge against the Dodgers by 4 – 3.

Houston will try the second World Series in the franchise history this season, led by the stars Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker, Carlos Correa, Alex Bregman, and Yuli Gurriel.

Atlanta Braves

Despite the National League East title, they were the worst among the other nine playoffs’ teams in the regular season, with 88 wins and 73 losses (547 winning percentage). Considering all MLB 30 teams, the Braves was only the 12th better.

For these reasons, Atlanta wasn’t, neither by far, the favorite to run for the MLB title. But they did it and returned to the World Series after 22 years. In that opportunity, they were swept by the Yankees (4 – 0). But now they will try to repeat 1995, whey the Braves defeated Cleveland Indians by 4 – 2, and will run for the fourth franchise title, led by Eddie Rosario, Freddie Freeman, and Joc Pederson.

To be here, the Braves defeated Milwaukee Brewers at the NLDS (3 – 1) and the Los Angeles Dodgers by 4 – 2 at the NLCS. The last and final game was on Saturday 23 when Atlanta concluded the series. In 10 playoffs’ matches, the team had 40 runs for and 33 against, the fewer from the World Series’ teams.

During the 1990s, the Braves played 29 World Series games – more than double of any other franchise. (The New York Yankees were the second, with 14) But from 2000-20, Atlanta was one of only 10 franchises to play zero World Series games.
