Vitesse vs Ajax for the Dutch Eredivisie championship match on Saturday at GelreDome Stadium.
Champion Ajax makes the trip to Arnhem to face Vitesse in their opening game of the 2019/20 campaign, after winning the Super Cup against PSV rivals.
Despite losing a few key players over the summer, Ajax has won the Super Cup and are now looking to defend their title. Vitesse secured fifth place last season.
Preseason did not go well for Vitesse as they had only one win against Darmstadt 98 in their seven friendlies, including draws with Bayer Leverkusen, Sivasspor and Korona Kielce, as well as losses to Pogon Szczecin and Midtjylland.
Ajax has lost just one of seven preseason matches and won the Super Cup title with a 2-0 win over PSV.
Saturday’s first game of the season and I think it’s a game with favouritism for Ajax but with both teams scoring. Vitesse has won just one of their last six games, while Ajax won four of their previous six. Both sides have scored in four of Vitesse’s last six games and Ajax’s five, which is why I believe the most likely result is 2-1 for Ajax.
Tadic hopes to be able to recreate his scoring ability at Eredivisie alongside PSV’s Luuk de Jong, while Vitesse expects striker Tim Matavž to avoid injury this season. Vitesse’s goals are to fight for a European place, while Ajax aim, as always, to be champion.
I am confident that Ajax wants to win, and both teams will score on Saturday and have a 2-1 final score. Ajax has a good record of games without conceding, but Vitesse, as they demonstrated last season, are not an easy team to beat at home.
My bet is over 2.5 goals.
