KFC Uerdingen vs Borussia Dortmund for the German DFB Pokal cup match on Friday at Merkur Spielarena Stadium.
KFC Uerdingen 05, who won the German Cup in 84/85 under their former name Bayer 05 Uerdingen, last played in the Bundesliga in 1995/96, but now resides in the German third division. Five points from the top four are not a bad start, but their defensive record does not bode well against Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund’s makes a short trip to Dusseldorf’s temporary home – Uerdingen – after beating rival Bayern Munich 2-0 in the German Super Cup on Saturday. Wonderkid Jadon Sancho assisted one and scored the other for the Bundesliga runner-up, who also won all six friendly matches.
Summer signings Julian Brandt, Thorgan Hazard and Mats Hummels, missed out last weekend so they could rest again for this not-so-difficult challenge.
Even with World Cup winner Großkreutz in their defence, Uerdingen’s defensive record has been weak, conceding two or more goals in each of the last three games. Against such a talented side as Borussia Dortmund, things can only get worse, and it seems reasonable to expect Dortmund to improve on that number, mainly due to its preseason form.
From the top, I think this will be a comfortable game for Dortmund who doesn’t want to be surprised by a weak team like this. A defeat or elimination would no doubt be a surprise and a blow.
However, given it’s quality and past results, we can only expect a strong start from Dortmund in this game, which will eventually win smoothly. So, I believe that at the break, Dortmund should have the game settled.
Betting: 2 -1 AH at halftime.
