Playing to your own supporters can make the team stronger and more chances to win the game, right? Wrong answer. At least for some MLS teams from at this regular season.
Among 27 franchises, three have better results playing away: Cincinnati from the Eastern Conference and Seattle Sounders and San Jose Earthquakes from the Eastern.
But from the first and the last team ahead, these results away aren’t enough, while the other one must clinch a spot at the playoffs in the following games.
The team is in 13th place from the Eastern Conference, with 20 points in 24 matches, and is between the league’s worst franchises. Twelve, from its points, was playing away: three wins, seven losses, and three draws. As we said before, this situation is not to celebrate, since they have only a single win in 11 opportunities at home.
Furthermore, Cincinnati has the worst offense, just 24 goals for – the same number as Miami and Chicago Fire and the second-worst defense, with 44 goals against, only behind Toronto.
San Jose Earthquakes
On the other conference, San Jose is one of the teams that play better away. With 30 points in 25 matches, 32 goals for, and 38 against, they still can dream about the playoffs since they are four points behind the seventh place, Minnesota United.
Eighteen from all its points were far from home, with four wins, three losses, and six draws. San Jose will play at home, at PayPal Park, against LAFC, on Saturday in the next game. According to Bovada, Los Angeles FC is the favorite for the win, with +115 odds.
The best team between Cincinnati and San Jose, Seattle, is the third-best team from all the league and will probably, clinch at least the supporters shield at the playoffs. But with 10 games remaining, they still can dream with the Western Conference title, since they have 45 points in 24 matches, in the second place, and the first place, Kansas City, has 46 points in 25 opportunities – onde more game.
More than a half from the Sounders’ points was far from Seattle (23, with seven wins, two draws, and the other two losses). But the results at home are also good, with six victories, three defeats, and four ties, showing the team’s strength.
While the offense doesn’t make many goals (36), Seattle has only 20 goals against, resulting in 0,83 per game and is the best defense from the regular season. After them, Nashville has the second-best defense, with 23 goals against.
On Sunday 26, Seattle will travel to Kansas, for play against them, at Children’s Mercy Park. For Bovada, Sporting Kansas City is the favorite.
