Tanzania vs Algeria, Monday’s match for the Africa Cup of Nations, Group C, at the Al Salam Stadium in El-Nahda, Qism El-Salam, Cairo Governorate.
The Tanzanians will also enter the field just to comply with the table. They have no chance of qualifying for the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations. Thus, they will only follow the established schedule, pick up their bags and return home.
Although they have a chance to match the score with Kenyans or Senegalese, if there is a winner in the duel, they will not be able to beat the loser. This is because the African Cup regulations establish direct confrontation as the first tiebreaker and Tanzania was beaten by both teams.
In their opening game, they took Senegal 2-0 to take a shot in the right direction in the three attempts they made. In the second round, before the Kenyan team, it was even better, but ended up losing by 3 to 2. They were twice in advantage on the scoreboard, but took a third goal, which sealed their elimination, in the 35 minutes of the final stage.
The same scenario applies to the Algerians, who in case of defeat to Tanzania can be reached by the winner of the meeting involving Kenyans and Senegalese. However, they take advantage in the direct confrontation against both.
For the first round of the African Cup, Algeria made 2-0 with Kenya. Then they scored 1-0 with Senegal, not only securing their place in the round of 16, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches. There were six wins and two draws in the period started in November 2018.
With the guarantee of the first place, the team knows that they will return to the field only on July 7 facing a third place from the recap. This allows coach Djamel Belmadi to use this Monday’s meeting as training, giving the opportunity to reserves and giving rest to its main athletes already aiming for the next confrontation.
Even if Algeria opts to put a team full of reserves on the pitch, their technical superiority in comparison with Tanzania makes the prognosis in their victory the best option for Monday’s meeting for the last round of the first phase of the Africa Cup of Nations.
