Southampton vs Liverpool for the English Premier League championship match on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium.
Any optimism about the chances of a good season for Southampton suffered a massive blow last weekend when it opened the Premier League with a 3-0 loss to Burnley.
This trip to the Turf Moor may have ended in disaster for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men, but the performance wasn’t as bad as a result suggests.
Saturday is a much tougher test for Southampton’s skills as they welcome a Liverpool side that has beaten them 7 times in their last 11 Premier League games.
Stopping last season’s finalists will be a great test, and many aren’t favouring the hosts here.
Liverpool started the new season last Friday when they dismantled Norwich in an impressive first half. They went into the break 4-0 at Anfield, and although their performance slowed in the second half, it was still a convincing 4-1 win.
They continued with a trip to Istanbul to face Chelsea in the European Super Cup, with the game reaching penalties thanks to a 2-2 draw after extra time. It was a long journey to play for 120 minutes against a much improved Chelsea team.
Liverpool has not lost away since January, and their last four league trips have ended in victory, as well as their previous four league matches with Southampton, so things don’t look very promising for the hosts.
I think they have a good chance of gathering some points here, but with 13 of the last 14 home matches watching them conceding goals too, a clean sheet looks incredibly unlikely.
I believe both will score and with Liverpool scoring 3 goals in 3 of their last 4 games against them I believe in a 3-1 win.
My bet is 2 -0.75AH.
