Senegal vs Tunisia, Sunday’s match for the Africa Cup of Nations, semi-finals stage, at The 30 June Stadium, Cairo Governorate, Egypt.
Senegal took their place in the semi-finals after beating Benin 1-0, the Senegalese team had a great deal of dominance in the match, with top scorer Sadio Mané.
Teranga’s Lions led by Aliou Cisse are making an excellent campaign at AFCON, having won four of their five matches in the competition. Given the West African team’s performances in Egypt, and with Sadio Mane playing well for Senegal, who has three goals in four games, they are expected to be strong in this match.
In addition to Sadio Mane, who is indeed fighting for the gold medal in Egypt, he also has the support of Ismaila Sarr and Keita Balde, who are in good shape and hope to bring difficulties and upset to Tunisia’s defence. Senegal has so far a defeat against Algeria, on the other hand, Tunisia is unbeaten in the competition. M’Baye Niang is in doubt for Senegal in this showdown, while Salif Sane is back.
Tunisia is a welcomed surprise among the four semi-finalists of the African Cup of Nations. Everyone expected them to be eliminated in the first round, but so far they have made good games and are now only ninety minutes from the final. However, they will face the main favourite to win this competition, becoming a very tricky game for them.
Tunisia was in the World Cup last summer, but they found England and Belgium in their group and failed to get past the first group stage. In the CAN they have been excellent and come from a moralizing victory against Madagascar 3-0.
Tunisia is unbeaten in this competition so far, tied three matches and won two. They will now try another feat against Senegal, Alain Giresse’s Carthage Eagles are not favourites, but with the efforts of Youssef Msakni, Wahbi Khazri and Taha Yassine Khenissi will undoubtedly fight to the end of their forces.
Tunisia has been a surprise, yet playing against Senegal who has been in good shape, I think the prediction in the Senegal team’s victory is the most appropriate.
