Saburtalo Tbilisi vs Sheriff Tiraspol for the Champions League Qualification match on Tuesday at Mikheil Meskhis Stadium.
Saburtalo got a stout 3-0 victory over the Sheriff of Moldova when the two teams played at Mikheil Meskhis Stadioni on Tuesday night’s first leg. The Georgian champions have pretty much one foot down in the next round, and they certainly are full of confidence before this next game.
Saburtalo Tbilisi was the best in the first match, although the difference of three goals seems exaggerated for what happened on the pitch. Crystalbel Erovnuli League, the elite division of Georgian football, has been suspended since 3rd July and will only be resumed on 3rd August, so Saburtalo had more time to devote itself exclusively to preparing for this second leg of the Champions League.
This participation in the Champions League was confirmed with the league title of the 2018 season conquered with 79 points. In the current season, the team has forty points (12 wins, four draws and five losses), and is in the lead of the championship behind Dinamo Tbilisi who is the leader.
The defeat with Saburtalo Tbisili has completely shaken their fans, because it was an unexpected defeat, as the team were in a series of very positive results, not losing during twelve consecutive games (ten wins and two draws), in matches for the Cup of Moldova and the First Division of the Moldova Championship.
Now in this game, the Moldavian champions have no choice but to play with every weapon against Saburtalo as they need a massive win, which is really difficult because the Georgians showed a good team in the first match.
As in Georgia, the championship was halted at the end of July and will only be resumed in early August, which also gave Sheriff Tiraspol more time to prepare for this game. The “vespinhas” have scored many goals in recent matches in their country, so they hope to score several goals, but as I said before it seems almost impossible.
Although the three-goal difference was overstated, Saburtalo Tbilisi was better than Sheriff Tiraspol in the first match. However, I think this game is different, and my guess goes to the victory of the outsiders.
