Rochdale vs Sunderland for the English League 1 match on Tuesday at Crown Oil Arena Stadium.
Considering they finished last season in 16th place in League 1, Rochdale is doing just fine right now. Dale made a draw at Shrewsbury on Saturday to extend their unbeaten start to the season, making them four competitive games without a loss.
Last Tuesday they defeated Bolton 5-2 at the Carabao Cup, and in the championship, they beat Tranmere Rovers and drew with Doncaster before the weekend.
It was enough to take them to 9th place on the chart, but Rochdale fans are delighted with their performances so far.
Rochdale’s most impressive improvements came from the front, where they scored 9 goals in 4 competitive games and not just once.
Defensively, they still have a lot of work to do, which is not surprising considering they ended up in the last period with the worst defensive record in the whole division.
Sunderland came agonizingly close to the promotion back to the Championship last season, even leading the Playoff Final 1-0 for most of the first half. A Charlton draw eventually came, and a 90th-minute goal for the Addicks sentenced them to another third-tier season.
The Black Cats started the new campaign in a similar way to Charlton, drawing their first two games ahead of last week’s League Cup victory and their 2-1 win over Portsmouth on Saturday.
Again, like Rochdale, Sunderland has been pretty impressive, but they struggled at the other end of the field. They have scored 7 goals in their 4 competitive matches but still, need to keep a clean record, so I expect a game with goals.
Both teams have scored in 7 of their 8 combined matches this season, and with last season being taken into account as well, I hope this trend continues. Rochdale have kept just 3 games with a clean sheet in the previous 14 home games, but have scored in 10 of those games.
Sunderland, on the other hand, has found the net in all but two league games last season, but have only got eight clean sheets so betting on both teams to score seems like a reliable option here.
The Black Cats have lost 3 of their last 5 away matches, and with Rochdale winning 3 of their last 5 home matches, we believe the result should be tilted to the home team, despite odds presented at home.
My bet is 1 + 1.75AH
