Rijeka vs Gent for the Europa League qualification match on Thursday at HNK Rijeka Stadium.
Despite getting no more than one shot on goal over the ninety minutes, Rijeka did enough to ensure they did not return home empty-handed. Although they lost with Gent, they managed to score an away goal in the 2-1 loss.
The visitors preferred to sit deep in defence and subsequently defend with only four chances against their opponents, while their opponents completed twenty shots in the match.
However, this strategy will no longer work for Rijeka as they have no choice but to win if they want to move on to the group stages.
The home team has been working hard to secure a winning streak in the last few matches but has only managed one win in the previous four games in all competitions. On the other hand, Gent will be in the final round this week with an impressive run of three home wins.
The away team, however, has not been as formidable as at home in their away trips and has admitted defeat twice in the last two games.
With a cushion of a goal in favour of Gent at the moment, visitors are likely to play it safe by keeping possession and attacking only safely, hoping for the best opportunity.
Considering that Gent hasn’t won in their last four away matches either, there is a possibility that they will draw if they do not get a better result.
Also, both teams have found the bottom of the net in the last four games and have been successful in the inaugural clash.
Although a clear winner seems doubtful, I believe Rijeka may have a chance, because Gent has not won any away games yet.
