Real Salt Lake vs Columbus Crew SC for Thursday’s game in Major League Soccer at Rio Tinto Stadium, in Houston.
Both Real Salt Lake and the Columbus Crew have struggled to get above in the table, but the hosts on Thursday have managed a win and a draw in their last two games, and it looks like they may have just gotten in good shape.
Real Salt Lake is eighth on the Western Conference table after a mild start of the season, while Thursday’s Columbus Crew visitors played an extra game in the Eastern Conference, but occupy 11th place and have minus six points. The form of both teams has not been the best over the past month, but Real Salt Lake seems to have turned around after drawing and winning in their last two MLS games.
Johnson scored Real Salt Lake’s first home win against Sporting KC in the fifteenth minute of last weekend and then doubled the team leader shortly before the half-hour mark. Despite having 54 per cent of the overall possession, more corners and more shots than the hosts, Sporting KC did not get the goal they needed to return to the game, and Real Salt Lake won a 2-0 victory.
The Columbus Crew had the home advantage in their last MLS game against Orlando City, but despite dominating the game with 60% of possession, thirteen corners and nine shots, the hosts were defeated. Against the flow of the game, Mueller put the visitors ahead just before the break, and the Columbus Crew never recovered, with Orlando City scoring again and securing a 2-0 victory.
The recent direct clash between these two clubs and the performances of both teams in the last six weeks points to the two teams scoring on Thursday and Real Salt Lake should make enough to win. The previous five meetings between the two clubs saw the two teams scoring, and more than 2.5 goals were scored in five of their last six meetings.
Both teams also scored in three of the last six games. Real Salt Lake have kept a clean sheet in previous four matches.
It may be that both sides score, but Columbus has scored just 16 league goals in 18 games and comes from a negative series, so I think they should lose the game.
