Ponte Preta vs Oeste for the Brazilian Serie B championship match on Friday at the Estádio Moisés Lucarelli.
The Macaca spent the ‘vacation’ period in the block of teams that would have the right to climb to the Brazilian’s Serie A next year but fell to fifth with a 2-2 draw between Sport and São Bento in Sorocaba, on Monday, July 8, which opened the schedule for the ninth round. The Campinas team has 15 points (four wins, three draws and a loss), one less than the team from Pernambuco, who took fourth place on the leaderboard.
The performance of Ponte Preta as hosts is somewhat lower. In the ranking that only takes into account the results that the teams achieve in their domains, the team figures as the sixth best Series B of the Brazilian Championship. Of the 12 points that disputed in that condition, it gained eight (two victories and two ties) having scored six goals and suffered three.
Coach Jorginho, however, expects a performance increase from now on, because during the pause in the league, Moses’ Lucarelli’s pitch was given special care and now has ideal playing conditions.
Oeste, who closed the first part of the Brazilian Championship Series B with 11 points (two wins, five draws and one defeat) occupying the twelfth place in the standings, took advantage of the tournament’s stop to go shopping.
They fattened their squad with defender Caetano, who was loaned by Corinthians; with midfielder and striker Matheus Oliveira, who was at Ponte Preta, his opponent this Friday; and also defender Cleber Reis, from Santos. It’s a sign that the team is targeting much more access to the Series A than the threat of demotion for Series C.
The performance of the team, which operates in Barueri, although in theory is from Itápolis, as a visitor, however, is worrisome. Of the 12 points played as column two, he won only one (one tie and three defeats) having scored one goal and conceded two.
The prediction in the tie is the best option for the match on Friday for the ninth round of the Brazilian Championship Series B.
