Morocco vs Benin, Friday’s match for the Africa Cup of Nations, 1/8 final stage, at the Al Salam Stadium in El-Nahda, Cairo Governorate, Egypt.
Morocco
The Moroccans qualified for the first round of the African Nations Cup 2019 with three wins, all 1-0. They secured first place in Group D with wins over Namibia, Ivory Coast and South Africa in a group that was considered the most balanced of this competition. The national team of Morocco certainly surprised all when they managed to win this group, including winning the mighty Ivory Coast.
These teams have met four times, Morocco won all the matches, while Benin never got a victory against Morocco, and indeed, in this game, the Moroccans want to continue with this success. In this game, if the team does not make mistakes, particularly in its defence, it will be a very complicated game for Benin.
Benin
The Squirrels have managed to qualify for this stage with three draws, with Ghana, Guinea Bissau and Cameroon in Group F, but they will now have a much bigger task to win Herve Renard’s men on Friday’s match. Benin is in a six-match not losing streak with three draws and three wins. Their most recent game against Cameroon was dominated entirely, Michel Dussuer’s men defended like a “parked bus”.
Now in this match against the Moroccan, the team’s stance should be the same. Benin has some problems in their attack, failed to score in the last two games, with forward Steve Mounie still looking for his first goal in this competition.
Benin showed some qualities in the first phase, although their offensive power leaves much to be desired. Morocco has not scored too many goals, but it is a team with more quality, and I think it will win this game.
