Latvia vs Israel, Friday’s match for Group G, Matchday 3 of 10, of the European Championship Qualification 2020.
Latvia vs Israel – European Championship Qualification 2020
Latvia has the advantage of playing at home in this Euro 2020 qualifier, but has only beaten Israel just once in six previous meetings and is in the middle of a ten-game series without a win. Israel looks set to qualify for their first European Championship, finishing second after two games with four points.
Latvia had only 31% of possession in the last qualifying round in Poland but still managed to make 13 shots in the ninety minutes. In the end, the pressure of the host was cracked when Polonia scored twice in the end, through Lewandowski and Glik, and secured the victory by 2-0.
A goal from Arnautovi saw Israel stay behind at home against Austria, but Zahavi’s armband gave the hosts a 2-1 lead at half-time. Zahavi did his hat-trick and with him the match ended in the ten minutes of the second half to increase the advantage of Israel, and Dabour made the 4-1 in the 66 minutes. Arnautovi returned to make the 4-2, but turned out to be too little for the Austrians.
The record between these two countries and their form and performance since the end of 2018, point to the victories of Israel. Israel won four out of six games against Latvia, and four of the six clashes between the two scored both teams. Latvia has not won ten international matches, while Israel has lost just one of their last six matches.
Valrijs Šabala is Latvia’s main source of goals, with the 24-year-old scoring 12 times in his country for a total of 50 matches, and is one that the Israeli defense will be more than aware of Friday. Israel are without striker Tomer Hemed due to injury, so there is more pressure on names like Ben Sahar and Eran Zahavi to give the finishing touches in any attack.
Of course, with some reserve, I can only think of Israel’s victory. My bet is Israel’s draw no bet.
