Georgia vs Gibraltar, Friday’s match for the qualifying round, Group D, for the EURO 2020 Qualifiers at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena.
It hasn’t been a pleasant start for Georgia in Group D. They lost at home to Switzerland in the first game, and also tasted defeat when they travelled to Ireland in the second game.
They not only lost two games, but still did not score a goal in the standings. Fortunately, a home game against Gibraltar offers Friday hosts the perfect opportunity to break out of this record.
Not only did Georgia lose each of their two games, but their performances were very unpleasant. Against Switzerland in the game, the Georgians failed to get involved offensively, as they only managed a shot on goal.
In contrast, they suffered 8 shots at goal in their home. They did better when they lost 1-0 against Ireland, although their attack efforts were still weak.
Fortunately, Georgia did well at home against low opposition during the UEFA Nations League, beating three of the three opponents in their own field, beating Latvia, Andorra and Kazakhstan, averaging 2.0 goals. They suffered an average of just 0.33 goals. Those numbers are a good sign before a game against Gibraltar.
Gibraltar only lost by nullified goal at home against Ireland in their only EURO 2020 qualifying round but was slightly flattered by the result.
In addition to not getting seriously involved against Ireland in their most recent competitive game, Gibraltar has been weak outside the UEFA Nations League.
They beat Armenia away from home despite losing to Northern Macedonia and Liechtenstein, conceding six goals and not scoring one.
Georgia’s victory seems obvious, but I believe Gibraltar will put some hurdles, and will not lose by more than 3 goals. Gibraltar has improved, and won in the Nations League against Lichtenstein and at this stage only lost 1-0 with Ireland, just like Georgia.
So my bet is 2 +4.5AH.
