England vs Argentina, Friday’s match for the second round of Group D of the Women’s World Cup 2019.
England and Argentina play for Group D, Matchday 2, in a game between two teams separated by 34 places in the FIFA World Rankings where England are third while Argentina is the thirty-seventh.
Both teams scored points in the group’s first game as England beat Scotland 2-1 while Argentina managed to hold Japan to a goalless draw.
England comes to this competition as a favorite to take the cup not only for the quality of their team but also taking into account the results achieved so far with victories over selections such as Japan, Brazil, Spain and a draw with the USA, current holder of the title.
After a short victory against Scotland in the first game England are now looking for the second consecutive victory that could guarantee the passage to the next stage.
They will play against a more accessible national team this time, Argentina, but that still cannot be considered an easy prey considering that already stole points to Japan who is one of the best selections in the world scene.
On the other side we have Argentina that was expected to be the weaker national team of this group, and everyone expected that they would be beaten by Japan in the first day, but that was not the case after a great exhibition at the defensive level.
This time the task is more complicated, facing a motivated England and willing to prove its value. If this Argentina does not repeat the great defensive display, they can leave this game with a heavy defeat.
In preparation for this World Cup, Argentina has only won one of their last five games having beaten Uruguay, a team below the level of this world cup, having been the only game that they scheduled in that period.
This is a game in which a quiet victory of England is expected against an accessible opponent which leads me to believe that Argentina will try to maintain its defensive consistency trying to lead to a draw.
In this game, I am not seeing Argentina managing to keep England without scoring so I believe that the English team should probably win without conceding any goal.
