Dynamo Kyiv vs Club Brugge for the Champions League qualification match on Tuesday at Olympiyskiy Sports Stadium.
Dynamo Kyiv’s second defeat was in the most prominent classic of local football. Acting at home on Friday, August 10th, for the third round of the 2019/2020 version of the Ukrainian Championship, they led 2-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk, a team already qualified for the Champions League group stage.
This meant the loss of 100% proficiency and leadership of the dispute. With six points, Dynamo dropped to the third position in the standings, which has the Donetsk team, with nine points at the tip. Among them, with seven, is Zorya.
It was the second clash involving rivals this season. In the first, the Kyiv club had won the Ukrainian Super Cup by scoring 2 – 1. In the Champions League, the duel with the Belgians is their debut in the competition. It was defined by a penalty goal scored by Vanaken 37 minutes into the opening half.
The result did not seem to bother the Ukrainians, who even losing maintained their defensive blockade based on overpopulation of midfield. They only created 11 finishing opportunities, with only one going in the right direction.
Brugge also had their participation on Friday, August 10th, in the 2019/2020 version of the Jupiler League, the First Division of the Belgian Championship. As a visitor, they beat Ostende 2-0 to maintain their advantage in the third round.
They became an isolated leader as Mechelen, who had won the first two games, were tied away against Anderlecht. The lead over Charleroi, seventh-placed and first team out of qualifying for the decisive hexagonal, is four points.
The first leg of the fourth round of qualifying for the Champions League was also their debut. With Friday’s result, the team reached three straight matches without conceding a goal.
Predictions for Brugge victory are a good guess for Tuesday’s clash on the return journey from the fourth qualifying round to the 2019/2020 Champions League.
