Dinamo Zagreb vs Rosenborg for the Champions League qualification match on Wednesday at Maksimir Stadium.
The home team comes to yet another match for this season’s Champions League qualifying round, and this is the last step to ensure their presence in the group stage of Europe’s biggest club competition.
Having so far an impeccable career in these qualifying rounds, with the Croatian team already leaving behind Ferencvaros (5-1 win in the tie) and Saburtalo Tbilisi (5-0 aggregate win in the two matches), each time closer to re-appearing in the UEFA Millionaire League.
Rosenborg, champion of the last edition of the Norwegian League, enters this match not having in their favour the odds, but still having a noteworthy course in this qualifying phase.
They already eliminated Linfield (won by 6 -0), BATE Borisov (3-1 in favour of the Norwegians) and Maribor (6-2 win), so this will be the toughest challenge on this long journey for the Nordic team, which still has a superb opportunity to make a presence in the Champions League group stage and thus cash in with a few million.
Given what seems to me to be a clear difference in quality and even in terms of the experience between the two teams that are at stake in this match of the Champions League group stage playoffs, where the Croatian champions, at least theoretically, beat Rosenborg.
In addition to that, there is also in their support the fact that they will play this first leg of the tie at home, which leads me to conclude that this match can end with a triumph for Dinamo Zagreb and with a relatively safe margin (at least 2 goals difference), which should help seal the qualifying victory in their next match in Norway.
