We couldn’t expect less from round two of the WNBA playoffs this Sunday, September 26. All the games ended with a difference smaller than seven points, and those with fewer victories in the regular season won their matches.

And despite the advantage of playing at home from Minnesota Lynx (3) and Seattle Storm (4), they lost for Chicago Sky (6) and Phoenix Mercury, respectively. While Chicago had an 89 – 76 win, Phoenix defeated its adversary by 85 – 80.

Chicago Sky

After finishing the regular season in 6th place, with 16 wins and 16 losses, they had to win two streak games to reach the semi-finals this season. And it worked.

In the first game, on Thursday 23, they defeated New York Liberty (8), at home, only by one point (83 – 82), in a more complicated game than we could imagine.

After that, round two, on Sunday 26, the challenge was against Minnesota, which had 22 wins and 10 losses in the regular season. The match was at the Target Center, Minneapolis, but the result was the same: another win for Chicago and the opportunity to play the WNBA semi-finals. Courtney Vandersloot, with 19 points, and Kahleah Copper, with 10 rebounds, made the difference for Chicago to move on to the semi-finals for the first time since 2016.

The best-of-five seminals start on Tuesday, September 28, with two streak games in Connecticut. In the semi-finals, the team will face Connecticut Sun (1).

Phoenix Mercury

In the same situation as the Sky, Phoenix had to win two games to reach the WNBA semi-finals, and they did it. They had an 81-64 easy win against Dallas Wings (7) at home in round one.

This Sunday, the team faced and had an OT won against the current WNBA Champion, at the Angel of the Winds Arena, in a challenging match (85 – 80) and knocked them out. Brittney Griner, with 23 points and 16 boards, Skylar Diggins-Smith, with 20 points, and Brianna Turner, with 12 rebounds and three blocks, were the highlights for Phoenix.

Now they have another challenge. The fifth-placed, with 19 wins and 13 losses in the regular season, the Mercury will have now to face Las Vegas Aces (2), which finished the season with 24 wins and eight losses. The two beginning games will be at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

For Bovada, Connecticut Sun is the favorite for WNBA title, with +160 odds.
