CFR Cluj vs Celtic for the Champions League qualifying match on Wednesday at Dr Constantin Rădulescu Stadium.
Dan Petrescu’s side eliminated Maccabi Tel Aviv in the second qualifying round of the Champions League and are full of confidence ahead of Celtic’s visit.
In the previous round, Cluj beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 3-2 on aggregate, won 1-0 at home and drew 2-2 away. Romanians are usually very fickle in the Champions League, they have only two wins in their last six games. A win for Dan Petrescu’s men is considered very positive, and bearing in mind that the team has recently scored goals is an excellent opportunity to make a positive result.
Cluj got an excellent win on their last meeting for the Romanian championship, beating Chindia Targoviste 4-1 away from home. Cluj is unbeaten in seven games, and with their attack playing good games with Ciprian Deac and Marius Tucudean in good form, they will surely be confident of trying to score against Celtic.
Predictably, Celtic overcame Nomme Kalju in the Champions League second qualifying round without any significant difficulties. Hoops have also scored goals in recent times, but this match against Cluj is likely to be a game with more significant setbacks for the Scottish champions.
Indeed, the players of Neil Lennon will do everything to get a positive result on this visit to Romania. Celtic comes to this stage of the competition after two big wins, a total of 7-0 over Estonian side Kalju. Neil Lennon’s team has been extremely competent for a while, winning nine games in the last eleven they have played in all competitions.
Ryan Christie has been the highlight and with great form in Celtic’s team, with six goals in his last four matches. He must maintain his place in the group with Odsonne Edouard also being part of the attack.
Both CFR Cluj and Celtic often have an aggressive football style, which is likely to open some space in their defences. For this reason, it must be a multi-goal game, but my bet goes to the hosts.
