Cameroon vs Ghana, Saturday’s match for the Africa Cup of Nations, Group F, at the Ismailia Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.
African champions Cameroon faced Ghana in the semi-finals two years ago. However, they had very different departures at the beginning of this. The defending champion can reach the round of 16 on Saturday with a game to spare. Meanwhile, Ghana hoped to put the chase on the title.
Cameroon won comfortable 2-0 against Guinea-Bissau in their opening match of the tournament. This is setting them up to go back to the knockout round as they look to defend their title in Egypt. They should host the 2019 edition of this competition, but the Indomitable Lions are on foreign soil seeking their sixth title in this competition.
Ghana lost in the semi-finals and third place match in 2017. They are looking for their fifth African title, but they are losing regularly since the competition in 2008. They have made it to the last four at least in the last six editions of the Africa Cup of Nations. This includes two second places and a bronze medal.
There are problems with the team, with Asamoah Gyan leaving the team after being dismissed from the captaincy. His return – requested by the Ghanaian president – does not mean he dropped the problem. The atmosphere is probably not good in the playoffs as they started with a 2-2 draw against Benin. That left the Black Stars in trouble in their attempt to conquer the group. They can stay five points if Cameroon wins the game.
The champions have won four of their last five games while in an unbeaten run of seven games in this tournament. He has won the last three matches of the African Cup of Nations, while facing a Ghanaian team that has won one of five matches of this competition.
Surely it’s going to be a tight game and perhaps a bit controlled at the beginning of the match, but a goal at the end of the first half or at the beginning of the second will certainly result in goals in teams with great offensive abilities as these two teams have, Ghana will have to score.
Bet: Over 1,5 in the 2nd half
