The German Bundesliga has had a busy first half of the season. With Bayern Munich at the top of the table, there have been no major surprises so far. Similarly, the Bundesliga’s top scorer battle has a familiar name at the top. Also, Robert Lewandowski is the tournament’s top scorer of the Bavarian giants; however, he has some exciting competitors in the race.
Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick, the top scorer at last year’s UEFA European Championship, has been catching the eye and is trying to follow the Polish striker in the goalscoring charts. Another well-known name in the German net, Erling Haaland, although hampered by some injuries, is also trying to keep up with the duo. However, the main highlight is that all three of the leading contenders for the top scorer award in the Bundesliga have spectacular averages. Check out how the battle stands!
Lewandowski remains king of the Bundesliga scoring charts.
It is hard to imagine any other player holding that position after three consecutive years of the same name dominating the Bundesliga scoring charts. Robert Lewandowski has been the tormentor of German teams season after season. It has been no different in the current season, and once again, he already occupies the top spot in the goalscoring ranking. In 2021/2022, however, the Polish man’s goalscoring average has been even more impressive.
The Bayern Munich striker has already played 17 games in this German league, and he has netted on 19 occasions in these appearances. There have only been four Bavarian fixtures in which Lewandowski has not scored at least once. Lewandowski’s most prominent game came in his third match in the competition. Against Hertha Berlin, the Polish international scored a hat-trick and was instrumental in the current Bundesliga leaders’ 5-0 win.
Euro top scorer also in the spotlight
Before the last edition of the European Championship, it was hard to see anyone pointing to Patrik Schick as the top scorer in any competition. However, the national team tournament changed the status quo for the Czech international. He already has another status after finishing top scorer in the competition alongside Cristiano Ronaldo with five goals. The Bayer Leverkusen striker has been challenging Lewandowski for the Bundesliga’s top scorer award.
The Czech’s goalscoring average is also catching the eye in the Bundesliga. With 16 goals in 14 matches, Schick is still in hot pursuit of the Bayern Munich striker. Like Lewandowski, he has gone just four games without scoring. The match in which he stood out most was against bottom side Greuther Furth. In the 7-1 thrashing of Leverkusen, the striker was responsible for four goals.
Even with injuries, Haaland is still in contention.
The current season has not been the most encouraging for Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund player has been unable to help the German side qualify for the Champions League and has also seen Norway miss the 2022 World Cup. Injuries have hampered the goal scorer’s numbers. However, they have not prevented him from continuing in the race for the Bundesliga’s top scorer. The star is one more with incredible averages in the competition.
Even playing only 13 games in the competition, the Norwegian has already scored 11 times. He has been even more consistent than his two rivals. He has not scored at least one goal in only three matches. For example, there have been five matches in which he has scored twice.
However, despite the trio’s formidable statistics, the Bayern Munich Poles are unlikely to end up on top of the Bundesliga scoring charts. At least that’s what Bet365 odds related to the German league’s top scorer indicate. There, Robert Lewandowski is quoted at 1.07 to take the position. The competitors, Schick and Haaland, have, respectively, odds of 11.00 and 13.00.
