Belgium vs Kazakhstan, Saturday’s match for the qualifying round, Group I, for the EURO 2020 Qualifiers.
Belgium continues its bid for the glory of Euro 2020 this week. The Red Devils should have been in the Nations League semi-finals midweek, but the 5-2 loss to Switzerland in November put them out of contention.
This blow cost Roberto Martinez the chance to win a first international silver slice for himself and Belgium. In many ways, the next European Championship is a great time for Belgium’s golden generation.
Belgium enters this clash with two wins by two goals behind them. This is hardly a surprise, as the World Cup qualifying campaign has brought 28 points out of a possible 30. In that period, the team scored impressive 43 goals, with an average of 4.3 per game.
They were in a rampant way going forward, qualifying themselves in style. The same is expected this time, as Belgium heads to the tournament as one of the teams to fear in the tournament.
Kazakhstan saw their best chance of qualifying for Euro 2020. They secured only six points from their six UEFA Nations League games, finishing 10 points behind Georgia, who qualified for the playoffs.
They started with a stunning 3-0 win over Scotland in March but face a tough fight for second place behind Cyprus, Russia and the Scots.
Even if Kazakhstan fights for second place, their outcome outside Belgium should not be considered. This is a showdown that all other candidates are likely to lose based on the Red Devils’ qualifying record.
In addition, Kazakhstan finished in the last place of the qualifying group for the World Cup, finishing with a goal difference of -20. Most of the problems happened on the outside – suffering 17 goals in their five trips abroad.
Meanwhile, Belgium was in great form to score in their home games. They scored at least four in four of their five home games. They must earn the goals here, with Kazakhstan losing 4-0 against Russia in their last game.
They have a very strong attack volume and will go strong to finish early with the game. My bet is over 1.5 in the first half.
