Aston Villa vs Derby County, Monday’s match for the English Championship Playoff.
Aston Villa finished in fifth place. Accumulated 76 points. That put them face-to-face with West Bromwich, fourth in the Premier League in the playoff semifinals.
In the first game of the duel, at home, they won 2 to 1. In the second game, in the field of the rival, despite playing better most of the time, ended up losing 1-0.
They only guaranteed their right to play the playoffs decision game by winning in the penalty shootout, scoring 4 to 3.
Derby County had a run of goals in the final six rounds that allowed them to take Middlesbrough’s sixth place and a final playoff berth by scoring 74 points.
In the semi-finals of the playoff, they faced Leeds, who spent most of the season in the Premier League direct classification group of teams, and was beaten 1-0 at home.
However, they showed that despite their technical limitations, the reaction of their athletes was even stronger. 4 – 2 was the score after the first half.
The thrilling duel, however, left a low for Monday’s showdown. Defender Scott Malone has been kicked out of the final stage and will have to comply automatically.
The big star of the team, however, is on the bench. It is the coach Frank Lampard, former player and great idol of Chelsea.
His campaign ahead of the Derby has made his name quoted as likely substitute for Maurizio Sarri should the blues decide to lay off the Italian.
This, however, should be directly related to what will happen in the final of the Europa League, in which Chelsea will dispute the title with Arsenal.
The two points that separated the teams on the Championship standings table clearly show that the technical difference between them is not great.
Despite this balance, Derby County’s prognosis in their victory seems to be the best option for Monday’s meeting for a place in the Premier League.
