The Fifa World Cup starts just at the end of 2022, but the Concacaf Qualifiers are already happening until it arrives. After two games, two National Teams are in advantage of Qatar’s three (or four) spots, while the others are levelheaded.
Five of the eight games ended with a draw at the Concacaf Qualifiers, explaining why the teams are very closed. To the third-placed, Canada, for the 6th, all of them have two points. The difference is just the number of goals for and against. Just Mexico and Panama won at least one game.
With two wins, Mexico led the standing. On Sunday, September 5, the last win was against Costa Rica, playing far from home at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica. The win came in the end from the first time, with a PK goal, from Pineda.
If we don’t have surprises, 2022 will be the 8th straight World Cup for Mexico. Now the National Team has six points, three goals for and one against, adding the result of the first match versus Jamaica. On Wednesday, September 8, the next one will be at the Estadio Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez, against Panama. According to Bovada, Mexico is the favorite for the win, with -140 odds.
Different from the expectation, the United States has just two points in the first games. The National Team disappointed in the first one, against El Salvador, last Thursday at the Estadio Cuscatlán, with no goals, and had another draw, in a more challenging game, it is true, against Canada, last Sunday, at Nissan Stadium. Aaronson scored first for the USA, and Larin tied.
As a result, Canada is in third place, with two points, but with two goals, since they already had another 1-1 game. The USA is in 5th place, and on Wednesday, in the next match, will face Honduras at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano. USA is the favorite, according to Bovada, with -120 odds.
The only National Team with zero points, Jamaica has two losses in their games, against the first placed Mexico (2-1) at Estadio Azteca, and a 3-0 defeat at home, in the National Stadium, against Panama.
In the 8th place, Jamaica has by far the worst defense, with five goals against, and with one goal for, it is better than El Salvador and Costa Rica, that still didn’t score, but at least they have two and one points, respectively.
El Salvador and Honduras
In an underdogs matchup last Sunday, at the Estadio Cuscatlán, El Salvador and Honduras had a 0-0 draw. This was the second draw from both National teams and the second 0-0 for El Salvador.
Despite being underdogs, both surprised and took points from the favorites in the first match. While Honduras had a 1-1 goal at BMO Field against Canada, El Salvador had a tied game with no goals at home, facing the USA.
