With potential standout performances from rookie Omarion Hampton and wide receiver Tre Harris, along with a rebound season for Khalil Mack, the Chargers might significantly exceed expectations this season, making betting on their success an intriguing option for punters.
The Los Angeles Chargers were hit with adversity for much of July, but finished the month in style, knocking off the Detroit Lions and leaving Dan Campbell frustrated in the process. It’s now the final month without a regular-season game until February. Between September and January, fans will learn whether the Chargers were cooking this offseason. Here are three dream-like scenarios that would prove that they were.
Omarion Hampton Enjoys Ezekiel Elliott-Esque Rookie Season Jim Harbaugh wasn’t afraid to invest in the running back room in 2024 and ended up with a similarly invested room in 2025, despite a complete remake. Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton are both slated to play significant snaps for the team this season, but if anyone’s going to be the bellcow, all signs point to Hampton. If Hampton takes over, he could be heading into the best season of his career. Ezekiel Elliott proved that it’s possible for a back’s first run through the calendar could be his best. Whether it will be Hampton’s best ever season in the end remains to be seen, but the stage could be set for a breakout.
Check Out Our Los Angeles Chargers Merch In Our LAFB Locker Room! Elliott earned 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Dallas Cowboys in his first season. If Hampton, a first-round back, can get in range of that, it would be a dream come true, as it would also possibly mean the Chargers suddenly have one of the best offensive lines in the league.
Chargers WR Tre Harris Delivers On Unplanned Promotion Before Mike Williams' surprise retirement, it was clear that the rookie wide receiver would likely share a disproportionate amount of the workload with the veteran. Now, Tre Harris has the opportunity to carve out his own role with the team. It’s clear the Chargers were not ready to trust Harris to this level just yet, but thanks to a fantastic camp, things are trending up. If Harris can deliver, it would be the best possible outcome and one the Chargers undeniably lucked into.
With Harris delivering at an impressive level, Herbert would suddenly have Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Harris as three receivers who could stretch a defense. If McConkey’s covered and Johnston can’t get open, but Harris can beat his matchup against a third-string cornerback reliably, it could make the Chargers’ passing game explosive.

Khalil Mack Rebounds To Near Career-Highs Khalil Mack dominated at a Trey Hendrickson level in 2023, delivering 17 sacks for the Chargers. However, offensive lines adjusted, and Mack fell back down to earth in 2024 with just six sacks in 16 games. There’s a chance, as an age 34 pass rusher coming out of a somewhat down year, that he has regained the element of surprise. If the Chargers are lucky enough to get this advantage, that could mean many more sacks for Mack this season.
Mack terrorizing quarterbacks from the shadows would be a big help, as any sack can end a drive. If he can get his sack numbers back into the double-digits, the Chargers will be in amazing shape. It isn’t something to be expected, but at this stage of his career, it certainly would feel like magic.
